Never There.

Dreams and reality,
Weaving in, weaving out,
The faintly drawn lines blurred–
I’m a heavy dreamer,
But I can no longer tell what’s what.

It was real while it lasted,
I dreamt of beautiful things
But the most stunning of them all,
The realest of them all was you.
And like all other dreams,
This one ended too.

Yes, it was sad to say goodbye,
But there was none
So how could I?
From a world unreal
I was shaken awake.
Dreams did shatter,
But this was nothing–
Nothing my heart couldn’t take.

If we were fated so,
To crash and burn to dust,
Perhaps I’m relieved you left no trace,
No scar, nor any memory of your face.
As if you never existed:
A figment of imagination,
A day-dream,
A fantasy.

And now I’m wide awake.
Shaken, but awake.

I’d shed tears for my broken heart,
But my heart still feels so whole.
I wonder why you couldn’t stay;
All too easily, you walked away,
And then I remembered:
That’s what dreams do.
They make you feel things,
And then vanish into the blue.

I’m not broken.
I’m not scared.
I’m just empty
For you were never there.
