Shoot Your Shot.

Before you go ahead with today’s post, I would like to tell you that this post has been written by one of my best friends, Akshit, who runs the blog ‘Lockdown Cookdown‘. He is a wonderful writer and he has been on a writing hiatus, but he very kindly agreed to step in for me today and be a guest writer on my blog! He has written something very thought-provoking that I think a lot of us need to hear right now. I hope you enjoy reading this as much as I did.

I would like to begin with a very thought-provoking question asked by a world-class poet who goes by the name of Eminem in his hit poem “Lose Yourself”, which goes:

If you had one shot
Or one opportunity
To seize everything you ever wanted in one moment,
Would you capture it, or just let it slip?

All our lives we have been told that life is unpredictable, it’s got a certain set of highs and lows and all you can do is roll with the punches it throws at you. Sure, there are some motivational speakers who will tell you to try and carve your own path, but I’m going to stop you right there and tell you to ignore them. Now you may wonder, ‘Hmm, should I believe a famous motivational speaker who has a gazillion views on YouTube, or should I listen to this random blogger I found on the internet who’s quirky and relatable?

The answer’s simple. You listen to neither of us.

I know what you’re thinking, ‘Er, you just presented more questions than you gave answers?!’

Consider this: there’s an iron rod in a furnace. It’s red hot, to the point that you’d think it would melt if you keep it there for longer. There’s three scenarios which I see:

  1. You let it be as it is, in which case nothing much happens except the iron melts.
  2. You keep banging at it from the get go, so at the end, all you have is brittle iron scraps.
  3. You strike it when the iron is hot, so that you can shape it properly later.

That’s basically life! You either go with the flow, which leads to a pretty basic life, no challenges or risks, just playing it safe. Sure, it’s secure, but where’s the fun in that?

i will not be weak anymore

Or you can keep taking risks and keep challenging fate and “be a path-maker” like the motivational speakers say. You can make it to the big leagues, but sometimes, life just wants to screw you up, and it will, and there is no stopping it. You go big all the time, you’re gonna land equally hard when it’s not your day.

Or, you can land your punches at the very best opportune moments, when you know that it’s your time, when you know within the deepest part of your heart that you can absolutely kill it and bring it home. That’s when you land that sucker punch, that finisher, that one KO move to beat all KO moves. Staying humble but calling your own shots? That’s the dream.

Ultimately, that’s what’s important. Calling those shots. Making the moves that make a difference.

I hope you guys enjoyed reading this post! If you want to check out some recipes by Akshit, you can find them on his page ‘Lockdown Cookdown‘. Make sure you show him a lot of love on his page. I’ll be back with something new for you guys soon!
Yours truly,
The Shubhster.
