In The Memory of Us.

Pieces we broke into
And pieces that we gathered,
Piecing us back together,
Like nothing ever really mattered.
Some we lost, some we stole,
A whole other lot scattered,
I found one such piece of you
From back when we shattered.
How I wish I could put it away,
Never think of you again,
If only it were that simple,
It still feels like yesterday
Though the scars have faded,
Pieces of you stayed
More than you ever did,
How laughable it seems now!
That could’ve been you,
But you chose differently;
Perhaps it was easier for you
To pretend there was nothing,
No heartache that you could weep,
Left me behind in your wake,
With these pieces of you to keep.
And maybe someday you’ll see
Hearts drawn in the margins
Of some forgotten diary,
Wishing you could erase
These little traces of me,
And somewhere, deep within,
You’ll wonder how I’ve been,
Wondering about all the things
We’d ever wanted to be.
But I’ll be right here,
Miles away from where you left me.
Perhaps you’ll be curious,
You’ll walk back someday,
The place where we fell apart
Has now turned to dust,
A grave now there lies
In the memory of us.

I was just feeling a little angsty today and I decided to write something that could tell a story. I might still write the story I had in mind when I wrote this poem, someday, but for now, I hope you liked reading it!
Yours truly,
The Shubhster.
