I am not big on resolutions and meticulous planning. I do have plans, but not rigid, suffocating ones. I don’t think it’s the best thing for me because I’m the kind of person who likes to wing it, at least, most of the time, and I don’t think there’s anything wrong with that.
But the one thing I always do is try to learn something new with every new year. Last year, it was trying to learn a new language and digital art, and I am glad I’m doing both of those things pretty well. They’re pretty much the only things, after writing everyday, that I like well enough to hold on to. The year before that, it was trying to write more poetry, and we all know how well that worked out for me. I genuinely like expanding my horizons, as long as I get to do that on my own accord.
So, every single year, I ask myself this question: What will it be? I may not know the answer right away because there is just so much that we all need to figure out. It’s impossible to always have the answers to everything there is. But, for the first time, I feel like I have the answer to it.
I started writing because I used to write short stories, back when I was a kid. And, somewhere along the way, for some reason, I gave up on writing stories. Today, when my best friend told me that she wanted me to write one, for a collab project that we’re working on, it reminded me of how the whole reason I am where I am today is because a little girl picked up a glitter pen and started writing the most ridiculous stories ever. So, I’ve decided that I will try my hand at writing short stories, once again, because I have a good feeling about the symmetry of all this. It almost feels like a sign.
For those of you wondering what you want to do with this whole year ahead of you, I just want to remind you that you don’t need to have the answer to that right away. It’s okay if you want to figure things out. I’m sure the answer will come to you, somehow. You don’t really need to look for it in places you won’t find it because the answer is within you; you just have to let yourself circle back to it. You’ll get there. You know where you’re going, deep down. You just have to let yourself believe that.
It’s a long journey ahead, you never know what might come up! That’s the best part about it. We just have to take it one day at a time because there’s nothing we can do about yesterday and in spite of everything you’ve got planned for tomorrow, you don’t really control what comes next and it could go either way. So it’s best that we make the most out of what we’ve got, right?
So, what will it be for you?
Cheerio! Xx
