Well! It happened. I had expected to hit this roadblock somewhere along the way in my attempt to write every day for a whole year, and today happens to be it. I was completely out of ideas on what to write for today’s post until a few minutes ago, that is until I realized that this could be a potential topic and got myself back to work. This isn’t easy.
But you know what? That’s what I want to talk to all of you about. Coming up with new ideas in an effort to stand out isn’t easy. Especially in the world we live in today because almost everything has already been done, except for, say, 95% of the world’s oceans. And doing so every day doesn’t make it any easier because, at some point, you’ll just have to work on making something that already exists, better.
I always say that inspiration is all around us, but it is also true we only draw inspiration from work that has already been done and we attempt to channel some of that excellence, add our own element to it and as a result, create something entirely our own. Being an original isn’t easy, but it’s possible if you look at what you’re going to add to something that’s already been done to set the bar higher.
Sometimes, the lack of inspiration is just a tragic side-effect to having too many good ideas and not knowing which one to work on first. And you’d think having too many good ideas would be a good thing, but this is the reality. People like me who choose to be surrounded by inspiration all the time don’t always work on them because the sheer weight of the number of ideas is probably crushing us internally. Further proof that there is something as ‘too much’.
So, if you ever feel like you’re just not into your daily routine like you usually are, it’s probably because you’re feeling uninspired. But that’s okay because even the best of them aren’t safe. It’s just a sign that your body is giving you, asking you to slow down and take a breath before you hop on the crazy, super-fast train to getting things done like the hustler that you are, I’m sure. Don’t give yourself a hard time for not having anything up your sleeve at the moment.
Candy bowls run out on Hallowe’en, and the best styles and products often go out-of-stock, but your ideas are infinite; this random moment of feeling uninspired is just that— a moment, temporary. Take a beat and relax. They’ll come to you when you’re calm and composed, and hopefully, not trying too hard because sometimes the best things come our way when we’re not even thinking about them. Life’s all about that little element of surprise. You’ll never know what might come up.
So don’t lose hope or give up if you feel like you ‘ran out’ today. You might be finite, but your thoughts are infinite. Give it time.
Cheerio! Xx
