Be Proud of Yourself.

Sometimes I think about what I’m doing right now— writing every single day without an excuse, whether I’m sick or travelling or up to my ears in important work, working towards my goal. I don’t want to brag about it, but I feel like the minute I show any kind of appreciation for myself, I am labelled as a narcissist. It got me thinking about why it is so threatening for people to see others appreciating themselves.

I see people on my social feeds who are genuinely confident about themselves being annoyed by trolls who call them out for ‘bragging’ or ‘being a narcissist’ when all they’re doing is giving themselves the credit they deserve. I don’t see what’s so wrong with complimenting yourself on a job well done, as long as you don’t also let it get to your head. The most important relationship we’ll maintain in our lives is the one we share with ourselves, and a little bit of appreciation can go a long way.

It doesn’t matter what got you through the day because when it’s all said and done, you made it through to the next one, no matter how hard the day was on you. Do you not see how wonderful you all are? I think so. I’m pretty sure that a lot of your loved ones do, too. And you never know how many people truly appreciate you, but can’t muster the courage to tell you that.

There’s a huge difference between appreciating yourself and being a narcissist. You’re only a narcissist if you’re full of and can’t see past yourself. Appreciating yourself is anything but. We’re all allowed to feel good about and give ourselves a pat on the back. The more we praise ourselves, the less we look for validation outside and yet, we’re all still perfectly capable of taking a compliment from others— a trait that a lot of us lack.

If you ever feel happy with something you’ve done, go ahead and take pride in your handiwork. Don’t let anybody take away your right to give yourself the credit.

You’re amazing, don’t forget that!

Cheerio! Xx
