I see you haven’t been paying attention to yourself lately. Do you want to talk about it? Is it because things have been crazy at school or work? Well, whatever it is, consider this an intervention! You’ve been neglecting yourself for far too long now, and honestly, it’s time to snap back to reality.
I know that you think that running away and hiding from your problems is going to make this easier, and maybe if you focus on everybody else’s problems, this will all go away. But don’t you see how it’s just piling up on the side? Here’s some tough love, honey: ignoring your problems won’t make them disappear.
It’s probably the last thing you want to do right now. You’re probably just waiting for somebody to come piece you up like a jigsaw puzzle. But that’s not the way life works. In fact, in this case, you’re both the puzzle and the one solving it. Sometimes, you’ve got to be your own superhero, or fairy-godmother, or shooting star, or whatever it is that you wish upon.
My best friend once told me that if I ever felt myself slipping away, I should do something, anything that would make me feel like myself again. And to date, that is one of the best pieces of advice that anybody has ever given me. And today, I am passing on this wonderful advice to you. You seem like you could use it.
Here’s what I have to tell you. You’ve been letting go of yourself for far too long. You know what happens when you let go of kite strings for too long? It’s harder to regain control because the winds are much stronger than you think. This stops now. Regain control of your life. Letting go is healthy, yes. But ignoring yourself altogether is not.
Look at yourself in the mirror. Who do you see? I see somebody who has so much more to offer. I see someone with a lot of promise. Keep working on yourself until you see that very person in the mirror, too. All you need is a little bit of faith in yourself, a whole lot of patience, and even more love for yourself.
It seems like a lot of work only until you start doing it. I know that working on yourself might seem very scary right now. But I promise you, it’s the best thing you can do for yourself. Take some time to gather yourself and take baby steps. I can promise you that you’ll get there again.
You’re going to get better soon. But you also have to work for it.
Somebody who has been on both sides.
