Starting off the birthday month on a very personal note! While every second person out there is busy with Inktober, and honestly, I think I may just jump into all the Inktober action, I decided that it was time to do an interactive activity on my blog. I may do similar activities every year from now, but we’ll just have to see how it goes.
So before you ask me how this works: I want you all to grab a notebook and write 5 of your favourite inspirational quotes, just as I am going to share mine today. I believe that the quotes a person lives by can speak volumes about their personality and that is why each quote is very personal to every single individual. I am also going to share why I chose these quotes in particular.
Most of these quotes are from books, movies, shows or songs that I have very deeply resonated with. I stay away from the self-help section as much as I can help it because I am not a big fan. But of course, write in your notebook whatever you relate to! So, let our 31 days of self-discovery begin!
Here are the 5 inspirational quotes that I live by!
“Have I gone mad?”
“I’m afraid so. You’re entirely bonkers. But I’ll tell you a secret, all the best people are.”
~Alice in Wonderland.
It might seem crazy to say that this is one of the quotes that inspire me, but it is what it is, and I fully embrace that. Because my head is always filled with a hundred ideas at a time and I need to do three or four things at a time to properly even focus, I’d always feel out of place at school and people would laugh at me. I know it’s not a big deal when compared to several other things, but it made me different and being different in school means you’ll be laughed at. It’s like a Universal law by now. And even though it cannot really be explained, this is one of the quotes that made me feel better about not fitting in. It always will.
“It does not do to dwell on dreams and forget to live.”
~Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone.
Choosing just one quote from Harry Potter is so hard because it was a big part of my childhood. There is just so much in those seven books that anybody, regardless of age or gender can relate to and that is, in every sense of the word, magical. This is one of the quotes that keeps me grounded because I always have too many ideas and not enough time to work on all of them. It makes me work harder to actually realize those ideas in my head. To me, it’s a reminder that no matter how I dream, I cannot have any of it unless I work for it and that’s what keeps me going.
“There’s always gonna be another mountain,
I’m always gonna wanna make it move.
Always gonna be an uphill battle,
Sometimes I’m gonna have to lose.
Ain’t about how fast I get there,
Ain’t about what’s waiting on the other side,
It’s the climb.”
~Miley Cyrus, ‘The Climb’.
I’d be lying if I said that this isn’t one of the songs that have gotten me through a lot of things. I think a lot of people who love this song as much as I do will agree that this is hands-down one of the best songs ever to listen to when you need a little bit of motivation, no matter what rock bottom you’ve just hit. Personally, it is my go-to song whenever I feel really low and lost, and I need that extra bit of motivation. It tells me that it’s okay to fall, it’s okay to fail. It’s all okay as long as I know how to get back up and get my act together because, in the end, that is what matters the most.
“No one can make you feel inferior without your consent.”
~Eleanor Roosevelt.
I’ll be honest with you. When I came across this quote while watching ‘The Princess Diaries’ I didn’t know where this quote originally came from. But I don’t think that matters here at all. This quote has given me the strength to live through the cruel slaughterhouse that is the land of high school. It has given me the confidence to not put up with anybody’s nonsense, to always speak my mind and to not let anybody make me feel like I’m beneath them. I honestly feel as if every single person needs to live by this because it’s the very definition of self-worth.
“Forever is composed of nows.”
~Emily Dickinson.
Call it ‘carpe diem’ or ‘YOLO’ or whatever, but unless we focus on living in the present without dwelling on our past or overthinking about the future, there won’t be a ‘forever’ to look forward to. What are you going to look back at when you finally get everything you want out of life if you keep worrying about everything except for the present? I’m not saying that you should be callous and treat the future like it’s never going to happen. But being mindful and dwelling on it are two very different things with a very fine line in between and a lot of us are yet to realize that.
So, there it is! These are just some of the quotes that I live by. There are so many more, from so many wonderful people that have impacted the way I think and behave. I’m pretty sure you all have such people to look up to as well.
If you want to join me on this journey to self-discovery, grab a notebook and write down five of the quotes that you live by! I’ll be posting more personal content very soon!
